Encountering Kindness while Yard Saling?

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

Are yard sales, garage sales, etc. all about selling stuff and making a buck? Or is it about people showing kindness to each other, by selling or giving away the treasure they no longer need or value? Has anyone experienced random acts of kindness while yard saling?

Well, I have to share a quick story with you guys about some kindness I received while yard saling this past weekend. It was the first sale of the morning. My sister and I entered the yard sale and were greeted by some amazing ladies. These ladies made the shopping experience a blast; there was great conversation and a happy atmosphere. The prices were awesome, too (which means more stuff to be bought and put on this very website to share with all of you). When I was checking out, the cashier was even throwing in some of the items for free. WOW!!!! What kindness!

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I sometimes get great items to giveaway on Ewishingwell at yard sales. Thanks to these ladies, I have some fabulous items I will be listing in the coming weeks. It was such an uplifting experience, I had to take a picture to share with all of you.

Hopefully, you guys run into these types of yard sales too. When you do, make sure you take a moment to appreciate them to the fullest – kindness is worth savoring.

When you guys run yard sales, do you show your customers random acts of kindness? If you shop these sales, have you been shown random acts of kindness? If so, leave a comment with your story below, I would love to read it.

Wishing Well with Hanging Planters on the Edge

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

Here’s a cute wishing well with hanging planters on the side of it. This wishing well looks right at home in the rock garden landscape. What a neat looking wishing well. Now that should give you some ideas for your wishing well.

I just love looking at all the different wishing well types out there and how people decorate them. That is why I am sharing them in this blog every now and then, so we can all enjoy them! Remember to send me your wishing well or one you really like in a neighbor’s yard. Please share it with all of us, we would love to see them.

Be Careful What You Wish For – Do Wishes Backfire?

Monday, May 9th, 2011

Have you ever heard the phrase, “Be careful what you wish for because it might come true?” Most of us have heard it at least once in our lifetime. Have you stopped to think about it before you make a wish? I have to admit, I never have. Have you ever had a wish backfire on you? I certainly have. Maybe if I stopped to think about my wish before making it, they wouldn’t have backfired on me. Therefore, really think about your wish. Is it going to make the situation better or worse?

Be Careful What You Wish For Sign

Be Careful What You Wish For

This phrase reminds me of two scenes in two different movies. The first movie is Bedazzled (2000 version) and Disney’s Darby O’Gill and the Little People (1959).

In Bedazzled, the main character Elliott makes the following wish. He wants to be rich and powerful with his love interest, Alison as his wife. The wish is granted. The next scene in the movie, shows him as a Colombian drug lord with his wife, Alison who despises him. She is cheating on Elliott with his co-worker who plans to get rid of him. His co-worker will take over his position and property. When Elliott made his wish, he neglected to include that Alison love him. All the wishes backfire on Elliott. He doesn’t consider all the details when he makes his wishes. I always laugh when I see that movie.

In the second movie, Darby O’Gill and the Little People one of Darby’s wishes backfires on him as well. Darby wishes that two characters in the movie can see the King of the Leprechauns. Be careful what you wish for…sure they saw the King all right. However, he showed himself as a rabbit, so Darby appeared to be losing his mind.

How many of you have wished to win the lottery? Have you ever heard lottery winners say it was the worst thing that ever happened to them? They lose family, friends, get divorced, become the victim of crimes, and even kill themselves. If you have no idea how you are going to handle that kind of money, is it a curse or a blessing? Be careful what you wish for…because it might come true.

Winning the Lottery

Wishing to win the lottery.

Have you wished for a bigger house? How can that possibly be a bad thing? Have you thought about the increase costs from owning a bigger home, such as increased heating bill, electricity bill, property tax bill and the maintenance? You might wish for a bigger home, but are you prepared for the bigger cost to own it. Be careful what you wish for…because it might come true.

Here’s another common wish, a new car. How can that possibly backfire? Ever heard of a lemon? No, not the sour fruit, but the sour automobile. What if your older vehicle was more reliable and didn’t cost as much to drive (such as insurance, gas consumption, and repair parts). Be careful what you wish for…because it might come true.

However, your wish might be the best thing that ever happened to you, if you are prepared for it. How do you prepare for it? Know what you are wishing for and don’t just make a casual, off the top of your head wish. Because you never know, your wish might come true…so be careful what you wish for.

What do you think? Have any wishes backfired on you? Please leave a comment below, I’d love to read them.

Real Wishes Anyone?

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Does anyone make Real Wishes? What exactly makes a wish real? How do you know if you are making a real wish?

19049421

Wishing for a Real Wish?

Is wishing for intangible objects making a real wish? These are things such as world peace, love, more wishes, fairies to carry you away, and happiness.

Is love a real wishIs peace on earth a real wishReal wishes for love

Are wishes for intangible objects real wishes?

Or do only wishes for tangible objects count as real wishes? These are things like cars, money, lovers, and houses.

Real Wishes for houses Real wishes for cars Real wishes for money

Are wishes for tangible objects real wishes?

What do real wishes mean to you? When you make wishes, what do you like to wish for: intangible or tangible things? Or do you wish for a mixture of both?

I believe any wish you make is a real wish. After all, you are a real person, it is a real idea you thought about, and it is your real desire. In my book, every wish is a real wish, no matter if it is made for an intangible or tangible thing. Go on and get your wishes on!

What do you think about the questions in this article? How would you answer them? I would love to know your thoughts, please leave your answers in the comment section below, so we can all read them.
