Flower Farm Success Story

Friday, December 30th, 2011

I absolutely love sharing Ewishingwell success stories with everyone. Here is the most recent. Hope you enjoy reading it and check out the beautiful pictures at the bottom.

Back in July of this year, I listed a specialty book on Ewishingwell. I knew this book would have to go to someone with a special green thumb, because the book was about FLOWER FARMING. What a great business to be involved in, producing flowers that bring smiles to so many faces.

Specialty Cut Flowers Book Success Story

Specialty Cut Flowers book that was listed on Ewishingwell.

To my delight, in August someone that special claimed the book. Tanis stated she had needed this book all year long, since she just opened a flower farm. Now that’s the power I’ve always dreamed about with Ewishingwell: someone in Mississippi needed the book I bought at a yard sale all the way up here in Alaska. That is definitely my wish coming true!

I shipped the book out that week. Then, the other day (December 26th to be exact), I got an email from Tanis. She sent me some beautiful photos of her flower farm and a few picture bouquets for me to enjoy. I don’t think I need to tell you what that meant to me. It was simply amazing! Her beautiful flowers brightened my day all the way up here in Alaska (on a cold winter day).

She also stated that she has referred to it MANY times, since receiving it. That’s what I call a beautiful success story. Thanks Tanis for letting me post our story and your fabulous pictures.

I hope all of you got the squishy happy feeling that I got from our Ewishingwell friendship.

Enjoy the pictures Tanis sent…

Encountering Kindness while Yard Saling?

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

Are yard sales, garage sales, etc. all about selling stuff and making a buck? Or is it about people showing kindness to each other, by selling or giving away the treasure they no longer need or value? Has anyone experienced random acts of kindness while yard saling?

Well, I have to share a quick story with you guys about some kindness I received while yard saling this past weekend. It was the first sale of the morning. My sister and I entered the yard sale and were greeted by some amazing ladies. These ladies made the shopping experience a blast; there was great conversation and a happy atmosphere. The prices were awesome, too (which means more stuff to be bought and put on this very website to share with all of you). When I was checking out, the cashier was even throwing in some of the items for free. WOW!!!! What kindness!

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I sometimes get great items to giveaway on Ewishingwell at yard sales. Thanks to these ladies, I have some fabulous items I will be listing in the coming weeks. It was such an uplifting experience, I had to take a picture to share with all of you.

Yard Sale Kindness

A picture of the yard sale and the ladies running it.

Hopefully, you guys run into these types of yard sales too. When you do, make sure you take a moment to appreciate them to the fullest – kindness is worth savoring.

When you guys run yard sales, do you show your customers random acts of kindness? If you shop these sales, have you been shown random acts of kindness? If so, leave a comment with your story below, I would love to read it.

Giving Away Gifts on Ewishingwell

Friday, April 29th, 2011

You might be asking yourself, “where can I find items to giveaway as gifts?”

  • YOUR STUFF: You can find good quality items anywhere. Start with your stuff. Is there too much clutter in your life? Do you have two of everything or so it seems? If you want to give one of them away, post it up on Ewishingwell. Did you change your decor? I’m sure someone would want it to change their decor.
  • BUY NEW: If you can afford to buy something brand new in the store and you want to give it away, because you know someone would love it. Post it up. You might be using a buy one, get one free coupon, but you don’t need two of whatever. Give the second one away and it didn’t cost you a dime, since you were already buying your item.
  • 2nd HAND: If you can’t afford something new, but you want to give stuff away. Your local thrift shop, garage sale, yard sale, flea market, and any 2nd hand stores are great places to find stuff at affordable prices.

What condition can the items be in that I want to give away?

  • NEW: That’s obvious.
  • USED: Some people love used stuff, while others simply don’t mind it being used that is providing it still has some life left in it.
  • BROKEN: Even if it is broken, someone might be able to use it to fix their broken whatever. I know when I needed to fix my sister’s Nintendo DS, I was looking for a broken DS for the parts. Keep this in mind too. (I would make sure to state it is broken in the listing.)

Here’s one reason why you would buy an item just to give it away on Ewishingwell:

  • YOU KNOW SOMEONE WOULD LOVE IT: Don’t you always see items while you are shopping, that you know someone would love, but it isn’t quite meant for you. Buy it and give it away to someone. There might be an item that someone puts on the website that you would absolutely love. Remember the Karma thing…

Anyway, have fun with it. I know I’m having a blast buying things to list on the website each and every day. One day, the website will be able to give all the items away without any postage charges, but right now – I can’t buy all the items and pay for all the shipping, too. That’s why the items from our Ewishingwell user id, have a small shipping cost associated with them. I just wanted to explain that to everyone. However, if I was only listing one item a month to giveaway, I would definitely make it free shipping, just so I could have the joy of giving away the item to someone across the country.

Happy Giving, Buying or Decluttering,

~Vicki

Secret Millionaires Giving Away Too Little?

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

ABC’s TV show Secret Millionaire aired the Season Finale Sunday night. I really hope this is not the last we see of this amazing show. Do you guys want to see additional seasons of this touching series?

I have seen some disturbing comments on the internet about this program. They go something like this: if these people are millionaires, it is an insult that they are only giving some of the organizations $10,000 – when that is like giving $5 to the charity, since they can clearly afford to give serious money to these organizations. I would like to ask these people the following question. When was the last time they gave away $10,000 to a charity? These millionaires are giving away at least $100,000 of their own money to the organizations. When was the last time you gave away $100,000 to a needy charity? These millionaires are helping change people’s lives. If you don’t believe this, you didn’t watch the end of the show with the updates about the money’s use.

Even if you only give $5 away to a charity, that is awesome. If everyone gave away $5 to a charity, that money would quickly add up. It isn’t all about the dollar amount, it is about the good it is doing – no matter the value. I applaud the millionaires for signing up for the show and giving away their money to these organizations and bringing these issues to television. Without their cooperation, there would be no Secret Millionaire show.

Sunday night’s episode was awesome: Ali Brown was sent only 2 miles away from her home in California for her assignment. It proves you can help people just around the corner, any corner.

Ali volunteered at 4 different organizations designed to help the Venice, CA community. The organizations were a restaurant for the homeless, an outreach program for the homeless, an program for unwed homeless mothers or expectant mothers, and a program setup to give beauty sessions to terminally ill patients and their caregiver. All of these programs are doing wonderful work to help their fellow human beings. I applaud them on their journey to make a difference in the lives of people.

What do you guys think? Is $10,000 some of the millionaires give to one organization, too little in your opinion? Or is it amazing they are putting their money into action at some worthwhile causes? Be sure to leave your comments below, we would all love to read them.

If you missed this episode, you can watch it here http://abc.go.com/shows/secret-millionaire. Or if you want to learn more about Ali Brown, you can visit her website http://www.alibrown.com/. You can also visit the Facebook page for the show at http://www.facebook.com/SecretMillionaire. As of right now, 65,637 people like this show on Facebook, so people must still like seeing feel good shows – I’m not the only one, thank goodness.

ABC’s Secret Millionaire TV Show – it is awesome!

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Three weeks ago, the new television show “Secret Millionaire” made its debut on ABC. Based on the commercials it looked like something I would be interested in…after watching it, I was right.

I really enjoy the hour I spend every Sunday night watching these millionaires in action. They spend a week in a community finding people doing great things for others. They even volunteer during this time. No one knows they are millionaires until it is revealed on the last day. Then they donate some of their own money to these worthy people, so they can continue giving to others. It is a very moving show.

If you have not taken the time to tune into this show, I strongly suggest you put it on your calendar to watch the next episode. You will not be sorry.

As for last night’s episode, John Ferber of South Florida went to Skid Row in LA. It was definitely an eye opener of all the people in need of a little help and compassion from their fellow human beings. In the end, he donated $100,000 total to 3 organizations and touched an unknown number of people’s lives. The look on the faces of the people when he gave them checks was priceless. It gave me warm fuzzies all night long. This is really a good show and I’m so happy it is on television.

It opens viewers eyes to the real need in this country to help your fellow human beings. It just might inspire you to do something for someone less fortunate than yourself. One act of kindness goes a LONG WAY!

Be sure to tune into it and tell everyone you know about it, so the show isn’t cancelled and they can continue to impact people’s lives.

Did you tune in and watch this show? What is your opinion of the show? What feelings do you take away after watching it? Did it inspire you to doing something for someone else? Please share your thoughts in the comments below. I would love to know your opinion.

Have an amazing day,

Vicki
