Remember to Say Thank-You

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

No, I’m not going to preach or scold (I don’t like it either – so why would I do it to you).  Remember to say “Thank-you” to people.  Even if it is family members, it counts!  People really do like to hear it come out of your mouth.  It is an act of kindness.

Have you told someone thank-you, lately?  Did you really mean it?  It lets them know you really appreciate them and what they do for you each and every day.

Sometimes the daily grind of life gets in the way and we forget to tell people thank-you.  It hit me yesterday morning, that I haven’t really told my husband thank-you for going to work and FREEZING.  He works outside and it has been -26 to -40 degrees Fahrenheit outside for 2 weeks now with an additional week to go.  Yes, you read that right MINUS 26 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit – DARN COLD!  I told him I appreciated all he is doing to support my effort to get the website (this one) going to help people.  I know, one day, when the website is really helping people – suddenly all those freezing days will have been worth it.  It will leave him with a WARM fuzzy inside, knowing we helped lots of people.

So don’t forget to say Thank-you to people, even family members.  They are people, too.

Stay Warm,

Vicki

Transformation to become more generous

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

I made a resolution about two years ago, when I came up with the idea for this website. My resolution is to be kinder and more giving to people.

I always considered myself, a selfish person – I don’t give enough (although others disagree with me).  I decided to change. I have been able to practice this through my website and in person. It is something that is on my mind constantly now. I just love it! It makes you feel great.

For example, last week I was able to leave a waitress a bigger tip for a small food bill, and hopefully it brought a smile to her face – she was swamped with people (the poor woman). I wanted her to know I appreciated her.  I also left a bigger tip for a waitress having to work on New Year’s Eve – hopefully it made her night.

I also try to smile at people more (if that’s possible, since I do it a ton now), lend an ear when someone needs to talk, give items away I don’t use – but are in GREAT condition, etc.

I actually started to see the kindness of strangers coming back to me. One guy gave me an informational tip to save money on diesel fuel when I fill up my truck. It took him 10 seconds to tell me, and it has made a difference. I have been able to pass on the monetary savings to other people, like the waitresses tips.

This is one Resolution I’m going to LOVE to keep. I have stuck with the “stay in shape” resolution for over two years now – but I’m finding the “Giving” Resolution much more fun.

This Blog Category is going to be a journey of kindness and giving.   I will be documenting the things I do to become a more giving person in my personal and Ewishingwell life.
