Self Made Wishing Well Experiment, no plans needed

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Are you looking for a way to have some fun and spread some kindness?  Here’s an idea:  Turn your local watering hole, swimming hole, or any body of water into a wishing well (no, your bathtub doesn’t count – nice try though).  Oooo what fun!

We did just that last winter as a fun experiment.  What can we say, it was winter and we wanted something fun to do.  Winters can be a tad bit long in Alaska, so we get creative (as you can tell).

We went to the bank and turned $20 into all sorts of rolled coins.  Now that we were ready, it was time to get in the car and head out to the watering hole.

When we got there we had to act fast, before anyone came by.  We didn’t want them to know it was us (we live in a little town).  I quickly started unrolling some pennies, dimes, nickels, and quarters.  Then we started throwing them all over the water.  I can hear you now.  Did we make wishes? Yep, it is a wishing well after all – can’t forget that.  Then we got in the car and drove off.

Week 2:  We headed out with coins in hand for the watering hole again.  It was no surprise when we got there that all the coins were gone…even the pennies.  I quickly threw some coins out in the water again, and then we split before anyone came along.

We did this for five weeks in a row.  However, after week three I was curious to see what was happening.  What were they doing to get the coins?  It is VERY cold water that time of the year.  Were they using shovels?  Getting their hands wet while bending over?  Yep, it was the cat lover in me coming out, curiosity would have killed me!

I did the only thing a sane person would do.  I bought a SPY VIDEO CAMERA! We installed it in a tree looking down into our wishing well and threw out more coins.  It wouldn’t be long now and I would have my answer!  We drove around for an hour periodically checking the status of the coins in the wishing well.

Then after an hour the coins were all missing.  We got what we came for (or at least I hoped we had gotten the disappearing coins on tape).  It was time to grab the spy camera and split.

Now, we drove home with great anticipation.  I was a little kid again; I couldn’t wait to eat my candy (I mean watch my video footage – same thing to me).

It was better than I imagined.  I couldn’t believe my eyes.  I was enjoying myself completely and so was the person on the video footage (score, it was a twofer deal – we were both happy with what we got).  You could tell we made his day.  Perfect, just what I was hoping for.  Oh you want to know the details of what I saw…nope, I’m not going to spoil it for you.  What kind of friend would I be if I spoiled the movie for you?

Here it is; watch for yourself (hint: turn your sound up) and enjoy…

So what did you guys think of the video?  Post any comments below – I would love to know what you thought.

P.S. – If any of you turn your watering hole into a wishing well, I would love to see the pictures or videos, so keep me in mind.

11 Ways to Make a Wish including One You’ve Never Heard Of

Thursday, September 30th, 2010
Do you LOVE making wishes and search for any excuse to launch one into the universe?

Make a Wish for a car and it is granted equals a happy person.

Make a Wish for a car and when it is granted it will equal a very happy person.

Here’s 11 of them including one you’ve never heard of (hint: we saved the best for last):

1.  Rub a Genie’s lamp to get three wishes.

You don’t have a Genie’s lamp handy?  Well find one…otherwise you’ll have to try one of the next methods.

2.  Wish upon a star.

I didn’t mean to make you start singing the Disney song…I’m sorry.  Keep in mind: you’ll get a lot of wishes in during a meteor shower.

3.  Blow out the candles on a birthday cake.

I would make sure it is YOUR birthday cake; getting spittles on someone else’s cake is not a good idea.

4.  The first star of the evening.

Don’t forget to recite the little saying before making your wish.  If you don’t remember it, here it is:   Star light, star bright.  First star I see tonight.  I wish I may, I wish I might.  Have the wish I wish tonight.

5.  Break a wishbone with a friend.

No, I didn’t say break a friend’s wishbone – you better read that sentence again.  After playing this form of tug-a-war, the person that comes away with the bigger piece is the victor – their wish will come true.  If it is a tie, you both get your wish.

6.  Blow an eyelash off your fingertip.

Don’t pluck your eyelash, otherwise it doesn’t count and you’ll look funny.  It needs to have fallen out on its own.  Now, put it on your fingertip and blow it off while making your wish.  If it doesn’t budge, you don’t get your wish.

7.  Blow the puffy white seeds off of a Dandelion.

You have to blow all the puffy parts off the Dandelion in one breath for the wish to come true.  This makes a great picture of someone too.

8.  Have someone turn your necklace clasp around.

When your clasp makes its way to the front of your neck, another person turns it around to the back again and tells you to make a wish.  A straightened out necklace and a wish at the same time, what a deal!

9.  When a ladybug lands on you.

Speak the little phrase, “Ladybug, ladybug, fly away home“.  If the ladybug listens to you and flies off, then your wish is granted.  No you can’t flick her off, be nice to little old ladybugs.

10.  Throw a coin in a (wishing) well or fountain and make your wish.

The bigger the denomination of the coin, the more weight your wish will have to get granted.  It will also produce a bigger splash.

And last, but not least…drum roll please…the method you’ve never heard of:

11.  Make a wish on Ewishingwell’s website (www.ewishingwell.com) and let people actually grant your wish.

Wow, using people power and not just fairy power to get your wish granted – what a concept.  Its easy and its free – now that’s what I call awesome!

Now you know 11 methods used to make a wish.  If you already knew them, maybe it was a good refresher list for you.  Go ahead and start making wishes, so the universe can grant them.

Do you know any additional ways to make a wish???  Post them as a comment, I would love to read them and try them myself.

Have fun wishing,

Changing Main Category Titles

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

We are changing our category titles to help clear up any confusion they might be causing our users. The old categories were wishes and grants. The new categories are Wishing and Gifting. I am working on getting the video tutorials updated to reflect this change. We hope this will clear up any confusion our users have.

“Local” Wish Granting-Website Use Topic

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

I’ve thought of a new idea with the blog.  I’m going to cover some of the features on Ewishingwell, so my users get the most out of the website.

Today – I’m gonna cover the topic, Local Wish Granting.

Lets imagine for a moment, you have a piece of furniture, like a couch.  I wanna see you ship that puppy to someone through the mail – NOT.  The shipping cost would be HUGE.  What are you to do?  You LOVE using Ewishingwell, but you can’t ship something that heavy and big.

Not to worry, you can make a few modifications on your listing and presto – it will be a LOCAL pickup item only.  So the LUCKY people in your area can claim your couch and go pick it up from you directly.  No Cost to you and a little gas and effort for them, what a trade off.  So Yes, you can giveaway Free items that are HUGE on Ewishingwell.

That is one of the ways I set up the website, so it can be used globally and locally to grant wishes for people.

Here’s how you would do it:

When you are listing the Gift (item) or the Wish for that matter, instead of putting a shipping method – choose LOCAL PICKUP ONLY!  Then when you want to search for an item, put in your location and see what is listed in your area for Local Pickup…

Let me know if you guys need more information on this or if it is clear as mud…heeheehee

How to use People Power to get your wishes granted.

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

There is at least one thing we all have in common – We All Have Wishes.

People secretly let the universe know what their wishes are, by wishing on a star, blowing out birthday candles, etc. We are taught: if you say your wish out loud, it won’t come true. So we keep them bottled up inside.

I believe the more people that know about your wish, the odds of it coming true increases greatly. I call it using PEOPLE POWER! We can all help each other make our wishes come true. I don’t know about you, but I would rather tell someone about my wish.  (Thank goodness, no one is a mind reader.  That would be awkward.) So it really has a good chance of coming true.  After all, if it is a wish, I must really want the item.

Think back when you were a kid (Oh come on, it wasn’t that long ago). If you didn’t make a list of items you wished for; how many of the items did you actually receive? One, two, or possibly none? I would rather get someone an item they are wishing for. Otherwise, it will just sit around on a shelf or in a drawer, until it makes its way to a box or a trash can. (Admit it: We have all been guilty of this.)

Right Now, you might have a book sitting on a shelf collecting dust. Another person, in a different state, is wishing for that exact book. I know you would give that book to them, if you only knew they were wishing for it. Instead it sits on the shelf, until you pack it up in a box and stack it in your garage. Don’t let this happen to a perfectly useful item. It could change someone’s life. As it is said, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

Remember to use People Power when you have a wish. It isn’t good to keep things bottled up inside, you might blow your cork (wouldn’t that be messy)
